Soloway Wright welcomes its new Articling and Summer Students

We are very pleased to announce that two second year students have joined our firm as part of our summer student program and that our 2018 summer students will be returning for articling commencing in August 2019.

Designed to help students develop and learn with help from our partners and associates over the summer months, the Soloway Wright summer student program welcomes two young professionals to our team, with the goal of preparing them to return to article with us the following year.

Our summer students are Isabelle Amyot and Ainsley Shannon, both Juris Doctor candidates from the University of Ottawa.

Isabelle is currently completing her Juris Doctor in the French Common Law program and she previously completed three years of her BA in Social Sciences, Honours, with a specialization in Criminology from the University of Ottawa. She has also worked as a translator for the Common Law Student Society at the University of Ottawa. She is an active volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada, the Ottawa Mission, and the Michaëlle Jean Centre for Global and Community Engagement.

Ainsley previously completed a BSc, Honours, from the University of Toronto, where she graduated with high distinction. She has been a student intern at an Ottawa based firm and is an accomplished mooter. She is currently an executive team member of Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights. In her spare time Ainsley is a completive Ultimate Frisbee player, having attended Canadian Nationals six times.

Our articling students for 2019/2020 will be Vanessa Carment and Crystal McConkey.

Before joining Soloway Wright to complete her articling, Vanessa was a Junior Law Clerk and summer student with a boutique law firm in downtown Toronto and was a legal support clerk at a prominent business law firm in Halifax. She completed her Juris Doctor, with the distinction of cum laude, at the University of Ottawa, where she was also a teaching assistant and a research assistant in the Faculty of Law, a case worker in the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, and a writing leader in the Legal Writing Academy. Before law school, she completed a BA, with distinction, from Dalhousie University in Halifax.

Crystal first joined Soloway Wright in 2018 as a summer student. Over the course of the summer, Crystal had the opportunity to assist with a major real estate transaction involving a portfolio of properties and was involved in discoveries. She earned a Juris Doctor, with the distinction of cum laude, from the University of Ottawa this spring. Crystal was actively involved in oral advocacy opportunities in law school, winning a local negotiation competition, mooting, and appearing regularly in Provincial Offences Act Court on behalf of Pro Bono Students Canada. Crystal is actively involved in community development initiatives, receiving an Excellence in Volunteer Award in 2011 from a Member of Parliament for outstanding service and contribution for volunteer work. Before law school, Crystal completed a BA Honours, with High Distinction, in Child Studies from Carleton University.
