Lawyers Feed the Hungry
On July 17, 2014, twenty volunteers from Soloway Wright, including assistants, students, partners, and friends, strapped on their stylish yellow aprons, papers hats and hairnets to help fight hunger amongst Ottawa’s most vulnerable.
For the second year in a row, the firm sponsored a meal at the Ottawa Mission as part of Lawyers Feed the Hungry. Our team members put their “considerable” serving skills to good use, ensuring that all who attended were well taken care of.
When we arrived, the excitement among the guests was palpable, and a large lineup was already building outside the dining room. For two hours, each and every table was absolutely packed. Plates of fish and chips flew out of the kitchen, and 120 litres of chocolate milk disappeared one empty glass at a time.
At the end of the day, we wiped the ketchup from everything, reluctantly returned our (it cannot be overstated how incredibly fashionable they are) yellow aprons, caught our breath, and smiled at having ensured that over 400 people would not go hungry that day.
Our team was incredibly moved by the sincere gratitude that we received, and was proud to continue what we hope will be a long-standing tradition.
The “Lawyers Feed the Hungry” programs provide meals to the hungry and financial support to charitable agencies that help with hunger relief. The organization operates programs in Toronto, London, Ottawa and Windsor. For more information visit www.lawyersfeedthehungry.ca
